Your next question could be just around the corner

WAONDER now speaks French and Italian on iOS, alongside Spanish and English. Version 26.10.2 adds both languages: two more ways to follow a place’s story without first having to translate your curiosity.

Perhaps you know the feeling. You have passed a doorway for years, then one afternoon notice a face carved above the lintel. The doorway has not changed. You have found a question: who made it, what does it mean, why is it there?

You do not have to book a trip to begin. Take another look at your usual walk.

A dog at street level

In Madrid, Perro Paco sits at 71 Calle Huertas. You need not look up at a towering pedestal: you can approach this bronze dog from the pavement.

“Why did this dog get a statue?” is already a good beginning. In French, “Pourquoi a-t-on dédié une statue à ce chien ?”. In Italian, “Perché è stata dedicata una statua a questo cane?”. The same curiosity, in the language that feels closest to you.

Our Perro Paco story explores the dog’s connection with Madrid. Read it before heading out, then approach the sculpture with more than a name in mind.

Curiosity travels too

In Central Park, Balto recalls a dog-sled relay that carried medicine to Nome. The real dog attended the unveiling of his own statue, as Central Park Conservancy recounts.

But his name is only the beginning. “Who else took part?” opens another door. In Balto’s story, Togo and the other teams have a place too.

The habit can begin close to home and accompany you to another city: noticing something intriguing, pausing and wanting to understand it.

Update, choose a place and start with one question

Update WAONDER on iOS and choose an available point on the map. It might be nearby or somewhere you hope to explore on your next visit. Begin with one detail: the figure, the person or what stood there before.

This update arrives with iOS 26.10.2. If you use Android, check the release notes for your version on Google Play. Language support and place coverage are different: check the map for places in the area you want to explore.

A story to bring home

Perhaps you return with a photograph. Or with the story of that dog, doorway or building you had been passing for so long without really looking.

Your next walk can be the same as ever. Your question need not be.
